MOSCOW, Apr 10 (PRIME) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom wants Royal Dutch Shell to quit construction of the Baltic LNG liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant and held the first negotiations on the terms on Tuesday, business daily Vedomosti reported on Wednesday, citing sources.
Gazprom no longer sees Shell as a partner although the company has participated in preparing the project since 2015. No final agreement to build Baltic LNG plant was signed between the companies.
Shell opposes it leaving the construction although a Shell official said that the company is considering possible implications of a recent Gazprom’s decision to choose a new development plan, under which Baltic LNG and a gas refinery will be fully integrated.
The Baltic LNG plant will have a capacity of 10 million tonnes with a further possible extension to 15 million tonnes in the Leningrad Region port of Ust-Luga.
